Driving Community Forward
Because no one should go without because they can’t get out.
When we first designed this pilot program, our focus was clear: help local seniors access the basic things they need to live safely and comfortably at home. We know the toll isolation takes. We’ve seen how a lack of transportation leaves older adults stuck—cut off from groceries, prescriptions, and even a friendly face and human interaction. But the moment we started working toward this goal, we realized the need was much bigger than we thought. The more we shared our vision with others, the more we heard about other groups who would benefit from the same service. This need wasn’t attached to any age, sex, ability, or status. Seniors may have been the spark, but this fire is everywhere—adults with disabilities, individuals with developmental disabilities, veterans, domestic violence survivors, those living in grocery deserts, and communities without public transit. People young and old with no car and no one to call. This test drive opened our eyes to a much larger problem and forced us to think of much bigger solutions.
What started as a senior-focused service quickly revealed a much larger need—one that spans age, ability, income, and life circumstance.
Wonderful Community Partners
When we approached Trenton at Shingle Monkey Roofing with our proposal to provide essential deliveries to those in need, His first words were “There are so many veterans that need this!” Without their contribution none of this would be possible.
The Experiment…
Our experiment was simple: find three people whose lives are severely impacted by transportation and/or mobility issues. We quietly launched a trial run with three very grateful individuals, each facing unique barriers to transportation:
“Jenny” A homebound domestic violence survivor, physically disabled and deeply cautious about strangers.
“Frank” A combat-injured veteran facing mental health barriers related to transportation
“Ethel” A widowed senior, suddenly alone after nearly 60 years of marriage—and then the sudden loss of her adult son.
For six weeks, we provided two deliveries a week to each participant—groceries, prescriptions, and daily essentials. They ordered and paid for their items. We handled the pickup and delivery. But what they really received can’t be tallied.
Safety. Comfort. Dignity. Human connection.
Our cup ran over…
We never imagined the impact we would have on these 3 lives.
“As a D.V. survivor, I used to be so nervous about delivery people, they let just anyone work for th
ose apps, and I didn’t feel safe giving out my info. Crosstown changed that! Their drivers are background checked and verified. I don’t have to worry about who gets my address now! And thanks to their Driving Community Forward Program, I didn’t have to worry if I could afford it! Thanks Crosstown Runzzz, You’re a blessing on our community!” — “Jenny” DV Survivor
“After my husband James passed, my son convinced me to move to Medina. When he moved away for work, he still made sure I had everything. But four months ago, he was killed by a drunk driver. I was lost. I never learned to drive, and at 78, I can’t walk to the store. I don’t know what I would’ve done without Carrie (Owner). It’s been hard, but now I look forward to seeing Kayla (Driver) and her chipper smile and positive attitude—it brightens my whole day every time I see her!” — “Ethel” Retired Homemaker
“Done Good!” –“Frank” Disabled Veteran (“Frank” isn’t much for big displays)
A World of difference
This program is powered by people like Shingle Monkey Roofing, whose “Gift of Love” sponsorship will cover continued weekly deliveries for these three individuals throughout the year. That’s not just charity. That’s community. And it proves small businesses can fuel real, local change. Together, we delivered more than just items—we delivered hope. Compassion. Human contact. We showed what’s possible when we stop waiting for systems to catch up and just show up ourselves.
What’s Next
This is just the beginning. We’re building a community-supported delivery system—a lifeline for residents facing hardship. Not a profit machine. Not a corporate play. But a people-powered program that runs on trust, integrity, and love.
We dream of a day when everyone in Medina—regardless of income, ability, or location—can get what they need with just a phone call or click.
